Fug Girls: The Best and Worst of Inaugural Fashion

This is about a week late, but I just read the Fug Girls on New York magazine to get their thoughts on Inaugural fashion. As expected, they delivered. Read their thoughts and watch the slide show here. 

Blog Catalog

I just ran across what I think could be a really helpful tool. Blog Catalog is one of the largest blog directories where you can search blogs, get help with your own blog and learn more about blogging in general. It seems pretty easy to use too. For instance, if you search "cat obsessed" you'll get back 668 results for cat blogs. Shocker! I actually think this resource could be really helpful if you're looking for blogs on specific things but don't know where to start!

The Friday Night Knitting Club

I finished The Friday Night Knitting Club by Kate Jacobs last night. I really enjoyed the book and it was a nice change of pace from what I had been reading. I do agree with one review I read, most of the characters could be from Central Casting , but maybe that's not always a bad thing. After I put it down, I couldn't stop thinking that it could be a great movie, in fact, the book almost seemed to be written with a movie in mind. Before I fell asleep, I decided that Julia Roberts should play the role of "Georgia". I'm sooo insightful late at night!

Well, I'll be damned if I didn't do a little research this morning and find out that Julia Roberts' production company has optioned the book and she is set to play the lead role of "Georgia". Too funny.

Turns out there is a sequel as well called Knit Two. Can't wait to dig in and find out what all the characters are up to now! I hear Italy is involved. Yummy!

RIP

I just got some terrible news.  Ms. Walker passed along the news that Conde Nast is folding Domino magazine. My absolute favorite magazine! What now? Damn economy.

While the website is still up, be sure to check out their spread on White House decor and the Obama's new decorator, Michael Smith.

Goop

Anyone checked out Gwyneth Paltrow's new-ish blog Goop? It's kind of a lifestyle/diary blog that promises to "nourish the inner aspect". Whatever that means. The website is gorgeous but I think I was expecting more content. I'll have to track it as it evolves and see what it grows up to be!

More Marjorie Williams...

One of my first posts ever was about one of my now favorite books: The Woman at the Washington Zoo: Writings on Politics, Family, and Fate by Marjorie Williams. I was so excited to get the most recent anthology of her work for Christmas, Reputation: Portraits in Power, edited by her husband Timothy Noah of Slate fame. I can't wait to start!

The Floatplane Notebooks

I've been on a bit of a reading hiatus, which is very unlike me. But I'm back in action. I finished The Floatplane Notebooks last night. 170 pages in one sitting! The novel spans 150 years and is told by different characters. Lots of great family stories. I felt like I was listening to my Great Aunt Ruth tell old stories about her youth in western Kentucky. 

Sometimes it snows in Boston

Pictures from New Years Eve in Boston. There were about 8 inches of snow on the ground. It was really beautiful and REALLY cold!

You could spit on the Massachusetts State House from the rooftop. But of course it would have frozen before it landed anywhere!

More Holiday Cards...

Turns out, Mrs. Q had the Quigliasco holiday card from 2007 hanging on the Christmas tree. I loved making those cards but as mentioned before, postage for square envelopes can be quite pricey. These cards were very easy to make especially with the help of my favorite product: Zots. They are little adhesive circles that make gluing paper together so easy, and mess-free!

Holiday Cards

I decided to make holiday cards this year. I made them last year too and was sure this time to learn from my mistakes... who knew that square envelopes require more postage???

This year I tried to make it simple and PaperSource was of course my go-to.

I got lime-green cards, two stamps, dark-green ink and some red stick-on sparkly things per Steph's suggestion. Not the most creative or detailed, but not half-bad either, if I do say so myself.

Remember the ole' Yellow and Grey post? I was walking through Arhaus in the Mall the other day and ran across this gorgeous thing. It was so yummy I made my Dad wait while I sat in it for a minute.

More Macaroni...

Katherine + New Camera for Christmas = Finally pictures of Macaroni! 

Turns out that Goldendoodles are smart like Poodles and ADD like Golden Retreivers and Macaroni is no exception. He knows how to sit, but he sure wont stay there for too long! Apparently Dee and Bill were watching a show on Animal Planet last night about Poodles and Mac couldn't keep his eyes off the television. How wild is that?

I didn't exactly do a good job of posting over the Thanksgiving break. I did however, spend a lot of time with my parents' new puppy Macaroni! He's an adorable Goldendoodle. I'll try to find some good pictures to post, but in the mean time, he looks a lot like this...

He's such an angel! 

Marimekko

I recently went to my first Marimekko store while visiting KT and Nicky in NYC. A dream come true. The wall of fabric was just as gorgeous as the photo above. If you aren't familiar with Marimekko, you make recognize their very popular print Unikko, seen below.

KT and Nicky used the Ginkgo print (below) to make a piece of wall art that covers a large wall in their new apartment. The best part? The leaves in the print were actually on the ground in NYC while I was there. How apropos! And beautiful.

This cow print (Kevätjuhla) is all over CB2 right now.

And this is my current favorite: Keisarinna. Kind of muted for me. Must be the weather.

Marimekko is a Finnish company founded in 1951. Per wikipedia, Marimekko fabrics were made famous in the United States by Jacqueline Kennedy, who bought eight Marimekko dresses which she wore throughout the 1960 US Presidential campaign.
